About Bruce

For the past fourteen years, Bruce Makous has served as a Consulting Editor of Boulevard, the award-winning national literary magazine. He has published two novels, Riding the Brand and Virtually Dead, as well as several pieces of short fiction and two plays.

Bruce studied in the Creative Writing Department at Oberlin College, where he was appointed student teacher and an editor of a literary journal. As a drama major, he was granted opportunities for self-expression as a playwright and director, and performed in many theatrical productions. Bruce pursued a career as an actor and playwright in Boston, then New York City, where he performed in a number professional productions and achieved performances of one-act plays he had written.

He completed a master's degree in arts administration at New York University,  receiving a scholarship as editor of a national newsletter. He served as a co-producer at theatre institutions in New York, Detroit, and Columbus, and a number of his productions received awards.

In his daily life, Bruce is a fundraiser for a cancer research institution, as well as an educator and consultant. He has served on the Board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals International, has headed an ethics task force, and is a past president of the local chapter. His commentary has appeared in a number of professional journals.

Bruce is an active member of Mystery Writers of America. He is a native Philadelphian, and lives in his home town with his wife and two daughters.
